Acorn came to Teja's in October 2005. Each time her owner tried to ride her, Acorn limped. After many visits from the Vet and a trip to St-Hyacinthe, Acorn was retired at Teja's where she has fit in exceptionally well with the herd. Incidentally, I have not seen her limp once since her arrival. Could it be that Acorn was pulling a fast one. Welcome to Teja's my girl. She is visited faithfully every week-end by her former owners who love her very much.

Red Erik is a 23 year old Danish Thoroughbred. He was born and raced in Denmark. He is a descendant of one of the greatest race horses "Man-O-War." A Canadian diplomat bought him and brought him back to Canada. He broke a leg and had to be kept in a box stall for one year for his leg to heal. He then developed heaves as well as ringbone, thus seriously affecting his ability to be ridden. Each time a saddle was put on his back, and just before it was tightened, he would fall to the ground. His owner was unable to sell him. I got a call from the RR Refuge for Horses asking if I would be interested in taking him. He was to be put down on the Monday and I took him on the Thursday. He now runs the herd at Teja's. He is a small horse with a lot of attitude. Red Erik is very special and he has taught me that no matter how difficult life can be, you don't dwell on the past, you move on and live your life to the fullest. He has surmounted many a trial, finally Red Erik has won the race of his life, that of freedom, peace and tranquility for the rest of his life. Welcome to Teja's my boy.

Carbone was 18 years-old when she came to Teja's. She too suffers from the navicular problem in her front hooves. Red Erik welcomed Carbone and protected her with his life when she was first let out of the paddock. They are always together. A beautiful love story, that of Carbone and Red Erik.
